Color Me Badd
We're almost done with the movie!
After talking about it, shooting it (while eating lol) and mixing it down, we are literal feet from the finish line on my debut short film as a writer and director.
Other hats were worn for sure, but proofreading end credits comes last.
For now, it’s post-production color time — handled ably by Alex at Picture Shop in Tribeca, where my cinematographer Mike and I would ask to adjust highlights from the couch before yelling “SICK!” or “TIGHT!” in unison.
Going in, I thought the color process would be akin to the mastering stage of an album: a final pass to catch glitches and make adjustments before putting pencils down and letting a professional finesse all the levels for maximum oomph.
It’s not not that! But I was pleasantly surprised by the surgical levels of tweakery the three of us got out of DaVinci Resolve (I was less pleasantly surprised that no one got my DAVINKY?!? jokes). This is an iterative process of collective effort, and getting together to take something from an eight to a ten remains profoundly rewarding.
Our child is now looking both sick and tight.
Picture lock is imminent.
Then, we celebrate…
Talk Show, “Hello Hello” — not a huge shock that this Zep-py STP side piece found its way back into my life. What a riffer! The fact that it only exists on YouTube as a fuzzy 120 Minutes pull from 1997 is even more perfect. Bummer backstory, but… might be a better Pilot-related loosie than “Mockingbird Girl”? Why choose! While we’re here, have some Dean DeLeo updates.
Die Spitz, Something To Consume (dudes will see this and say hell yeah)
Frost Children, Sister (“EDM is the folk music of America”)
Offset feat. JID, BNYX & Drowning Pool, “Bodies (Live)” (lol but also… fire)
CDMX Oasis Reunion Bootleg Tees — no link (find Redbubble knockoffs on your own time), just sharing this summer’s most glorious merch achievement.
