Got up with my guy Eliot Infuze this past Monday to finish the final audio mix on Packages, the short film I’ve been making (and yapping about) all summer.
In reality, it has taken much longer than that, but in this endeavor you quickly realize time is… elastic. Waiting waiting waiting waiting waiting, until everything hits all at once and there’s somehow never enough hours in the day.
It is infuriating and exhilarating — and I am clearly not the first person to go through it — but all you can do is trust the process. Be prepared, present, and flexible (when appropriate) and try to work with people better than you whenever you can.
Which is where Infuze comes in…
Like many mad audio scientists before him, Eliot has aimed his EQ expertise from stage to screen, and now the person I used to ask to mix down my records is the person I ask to mix down my movie. In 5:1 no less!
After editing through earbuds, it’s exciting to hear Packages properly for the first time. The dialogue pops, Dan’s score is a vibe, and I was unreasonably hype to throw extra sauce on the sound effects (for the record, he and I did not manually record any BANGs, WHOOMPs and/or SKRRRTs, but our choices remain intentional lol).
Meanwhile, this project has entered the VFX / color grade pipeline, as well as the festival submission shuffle (please cross fingers and cast spells on our behalf).
All in service of presenting it to you, the people…
I promise all henchmen footsteps were added with love.
