Reeeeeemix
A new one for Princess Superstar (with bonus Louisahhh).
Happy New Music Friday to all who celebrate!
My contribution to the holiday is a remix for Princess Superstar’s “Yum-Me,” streaming everywhere alongside additional flips by Plasmic, Big Softy and the forever homie Louisahhh, seen here with ur boy in the halcyon days of The Standard Downtown’s rooftop pool (RIP). She also has new joints out today on Magic City if u wanna keep the party going.
PS has always been a good time. We share a few mutuals, maaaaybe some bills over the years too? Google is beyond useless now but I vaguely remember a festival on Randall’s Island that once booked a bunch of us in the “mash-up tent” (hosted by Grandmaster Caz?!?)
Anyway, working on this “Yum-Me” mix was our first proper interaction.
Her mid-aughts banger “Perfect (Exceeder)” was recently reborn as a TikTok phenomenon thanks to Saltburn and bass dudes. Was already loving the Princess’ philosophical attitude towards the whole thing, but this check-in below really sealed the deal for me…
Love her!
Leo Vincent, “Loving Isn’t Easy” — Soulwax co-sign = instant listen, but this one’s xtra zany: “some say it’s disco for night janitors, some say it’s glam-rock for ravers… imagine yourself sitting in the home cinema of the late Marc Bolan while watching a documentary on Scatman John, directed by Jacques Tati and scored by Ween, using only the instruments of Cabaret Voltaire...”
Turnstile, “I Wanna Be Adored” (Stone Roses cover)
Milk Talk, “The Bay” (LOVE!)
Nine Inch Nails, “Shadow Over Me (The Dare Remix)” (dude’s on a roll)
Homeboy Sandman, “Prayer Mat” (captured the snow day for posterity)
Lord Finesse, “Actual Facts” (1996, but Fat Joe on upright bass timeless)
Sister Midnight (2024, dir. Karan Kandhari) — still thinking about this oddball gem (now streaming on Hulu) about a woman in an arranged marriage who may or may not be turning into a vampire. Go in blind, then come back for reads from Filmmaker Magazine, Movable Fest, Chicago Critics Film Festival and Kodak.
Ask The Staples Baddie (lol)
Peter Saville wool collab (“Power, Corruption & Dyes” headline of year)
Chef Joe’s Skull Calzones (“…with pepperoni and cheese brains!”)
Grandmaster B vinyl figure (woooooooahhhh Bundy)
Playlists updated!
