Last few ‘stacks had no loosies. Let’s rectify, and close some open tabs.
Beyond The Streets x Garbage Pail Kids — classic GPK freaks remixed by the likes of Mister Cartoon, POSE, Action Bronson, FRKO and yours truly. These haven’t been available since 2020, don’t sleep.
Cosmic Joke, Cosmic Joke — rrrawwwwwrrrr!
Lizzy Grant “Wayamaya” — old but new to me. Pre-Lana LDR’s kinda magical.
Vision Pro existentialism — “In contrast with public viral theatrics, user accounts of the Vision Pro are more poignant than off-putting. Each excited or bewildered observation posted from within the helmet implies, instead, a series of gently absurd vignettes, observed by nobody.”
Saya Gray, “AA BOUQUET FOR YOUR 180 FACE” — sent to the group chat with “i like the production on this. ‘quirky’ but chromed out and SUPER WIDE.” Responses included “This kept me guessing fr… ‘What is this?’ genre… Like if siriusmo’s daughter were signed to Finneas.” High praise!
The Wild World of Jeff Turtletaub — NYC public access talk show that aired four episodes between ‘ 79 and ‘82 with Klaus Nomi, Jenny Holzer, Ann Magnuson and other art kooks of the day. Keith Haring was a cameraman! (Check the PBS listings for Haring’s American Masters episode, it’s great. For any zoomers in the chat, Google can tell you what “PBS” and “listings” are.)
Joe Piscopo’s Fly On The Wall episode — take a shot every time he calls Sinatra “Mr. S.”
We’ve Got A File On You: Craig Wedren — featuring Dischord Records, The State inside baseball and various NYU dorm shout-outs. Clearly not for me at all.
TMNT: The Coming Out of Their Shells Tour — speaking of The State, lots of Turtle content in my feed lately thanks to Kid Cudi’s 40th (HBD SCOTT) and the daily time travelers at VHS Crypt. This t-shirt is my dream blunt rotation.
Vegyn x CRACK Magazine — v healthy for artists to inform their acolytes that expectations typically don’t help a career! Did not know that Vegyn was behind the quite good / timely Headache project. The Will Powers of its day! Or the “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)”? In any case, very much looking forward to his album in April, the dance vids are a vibe.
Fellow Saltburn truthers — “People keep talking about it, so I keep thinking about why I enjoy it so much, even though many of the criticisms leveled at it are not, strictly speaking, wrong.”
Girl Skateboards Yeah Right (4K Remaster) — still Owen Wilson’s finest work.
Brion Gysin, Junk — I remember seeing BG’s name pop up while devouring every possible Nirvana article a pre-internet tween could get their hands on. He was buds with Kurt’s elderly bestie William S. Burroughs. They built a goon shack. Other stuff too, but I’m getting away from the important part: this weird-ass record slaps. Disco adjacent dabbling from intellectuals is a fantastic pursuit.
RIP Carl Weathers — the bicep, the stew, the “Mando!!!” Salute Action Jackson.
Lloyd Charmers, “Ensure (aka Baby Huey)” — Sunday afternoon reggae with dub-warped chipmunk kiddy vocals gets an airhorn, a rewind, and a lighta!
Cash Bently, "My Love All Mine" (Mitski Cover) — worth it just for “soy tu groupie” comment from user BITCHIMINTENSE.
Atelier De Ratons — linoleum vest is (literally) hard.
The Wrong Guy — the anniversary Q&A and steady stream of NewsRadio reruns in my household have me excited to check this Dave Foley opus (not to mention his Becker and Just Shoot Me! cameos… we watch a lot of television). Weirdly hard to find on streaming or hi-def home media, snuff quality YouTube links will have to do.
TiaCorine ft. Zelooperz, “Olive” — broken computer beats have a direct line to my heart. BNYX strikes again! Love when FreakyT calls your dude “a weenie” and when Zelooperz does just about anything.
Sports Park USA token — IYKYK. I most certainly K; a malfunctioning SPUSA batting cage blaster once broke my arm in several places. It’s an honor to find their legal tender decades later in a collector bible. (As always: thank u nerds.) Must obtain Saudi “Chuck E. Rocks!” piece ASAP to wear around my neck for evil-warding-off purposes.
DJ Evil Dee, Monday Night Flavor Mix — it’s the Gap Band / Redman blend for me. IS THERE A FUNK DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?
